The first serial number of 1929 was in the 1.3 million range.
Sounds like an armory re-barrel to me.
I have two Springfield rifles that both have SA 7-29 dated barrels. I am rather sure these barrels are original to the receivers. One rifle is 1373022 and the SA 7-29 barrel has the star gage on the muzzle plus the other data and the other rifle is 1321534 with a standard SA 7-29 dated barrelAttachment 103939Attachment 103940
Can you get pics of this? A 1.02 with a 1929 re barrel sounds like it could be a Marine rebuild. The Marines received replacement barrels at that time and that serial range is very classic Marine Corps.
