Hi
I have a Mauser 1871 rifle & Looking for measurements & pics if possible on the rear barrel band spring for the single shot rifle. The front spring could be the same measurement. Thanks for any help.
The following measurements are taken from my Gew.71. I cannot remove them from the stock without risking damage, so the measurements are not to a 1/100mm, but probably accurate to +/- 0.2mm.
The two springs are identical, apart from the length of the cross-pin that goes through the stock. Pin diameter seems to be about 1.5mm. You will have to judge the position of the pin along the length of the spring by measuring your stock, but it is about 12mm back from the front end of the spring.
Spring length is 72.2mm when the spring is flat (the curve makes it seem a little shorter) and the ends are shaped to a semicircle. Spring width is 4.0mm.
Spring thickness is about 2.0mm on the tang that is trapped beneath the barrel band. Over most of the "springy length it is about 1.5mm. BUT there is a complex curve that forms the lug to stop the band sliding forwards under recoil. The max. thickness of this lug is 6mm. Please copy the shape from the photo that will follow this post a.s.a.p.
Here are the spring profile photos:

for the lower band spring.

They seem to be identical.
Note that the tang is 9.5mm long in both cases.
