Just picked this up

Brought this today it will be here in @8-9 working days.
Its obviously for a 20Pdr as per pics what intrigued me was the 2 piece SABO construction like the bottom half was either to fall away or be like a APDS round and assist the penetrator front piece to penetrate it is a prac round although I have seen a similar bottom piece for sale on the same site stating its proof round though only has the bottom bit and no driving bands!
Can any one out there elaborate on this projectile it is appreciated.

Says discarding sabot [DS] on the sabot, with the T indicating tracer.

The sabot provides obturation, grip on the rifling, spin, etc in the barrel. As soon as it leaves the muzzle the normal air resistance retards the loose sabot and it it falls away, leaving the penetrator to investigate the hardness of the target's armour. The tracer in the penetrator allows gunner to follow flight and correct the second shot.

Blue grey colour would indicate practice?

Agree with all of Daan's info, we had those lying around the range when I was much younger as the Centurions were still around. Yes, blue is practice, inert, no filler...looks like the bottom drive band was pilfered or just torn off after firing. I also have a smoke projectile with no remaining markings and have never the chance to find a case. Collector's source in Ontario had one but...$300CDN plus shipping...

Here's my 20 pounder smoke projectile, it's been naked since I brushed the rust off back in about 1987...found a 155mm smoke same time but have since sold it. The bigger ones are hard to move with you when posted. The smaller ones not so bad. Now for a shell...

Nice looking rounds BAR, it is a labour of love trying to get the larger types as I have said where I am in the country we only have 2 shows a year 250 klms away from where I live where there is any possibilityof getting large caliber gear and collectable ammo recently the collectable ammo has to be deloused so that just kills the item in my view.
The prices can get out of hand as well a bloke had a M36 Mills out the other day on the site and I think it went for $449/Au, I am still chasing a Tiger 88mm and knjow where there is a complete one but I reckon they if selling it to me friend or no friend it would be $1k the ol' chestnut supply and demand and getting one from o/seas wont happen due to inhibitive costs and customs even with the shell inereted.
They would probably say here is a nutter with a Tiger tank in his back yard, although there was that guy in Germany who had a pretty complete Panther in his garage till the govt cracked a sad and dudes arrived and took it away!:yikes:

Fellow some of us around here knew who passed a few years back used to talk about stuff he'd found in Belgium when he worked there in the 70s: Feisler Storch made into a henhouse, FSJ helmets nailed to beams as animal feeders. His biggest story was about the King Tiger which drove into a barn and promptly fell through the floor into the cellars where he claimed it remained to that day.

It was a good story anyway!
