Sleeving a Martini Henry Rifle Barrel.
I found a carbine in my shop from long ago that some ungrateful person cut a slot across the barrel at the receiver with a saw. I would like to find a .303 barrel sleeve to slide into the barrel an just epoxy it in. then just changing the extractor as needed. Not sure if any one has tried this before or if there is a source for the sleeve. Like to hear your thoughts on this.

Not my area of expertise, but while you can use soft lead solder, epoxy, or green Locktite to fix the sleeve in a .22 rimfire barrel (there's a great video online), an old gunsmithing book I have said that the pressure created by a center fire cartridge requires the use of silver solder to fix the sleeve. Granted, things have probably change since the book was penned some 70 odd years ago. It might be easier and safer just to rebarrel to .303. Sorry, I never asked - are you sleeving a .577/450 Martini-Henry barrel, or a .303 British barrel?

When we sleeved barrels we had a policy not to sleeve anything .30 cal or bigger, the high pressure stuff. We didn't know if it would take it. Still don't. I'd just make a barrel in .303 or .30/.303 preferable and fit it. As stated, it was all about the pressures...

I wanted to take 557/450 barrel an put a sleeve inside that would be a .303 . My thinking that is the extra metal would handle standard loads or lower lead cast ammo. I know a regular .303 barrel can be put on action. But I would like to keep the profile of the firearm.

I'm guessing a Martini ACII Carbine? The saw cut across the top of the barrel above the chamber was the most common method of decommissioning used and the vast majority succomed to this fate.

Good shootable original Artillery Carbines are hard to find these days.

I must admit, the viability of sleeving a .303 liner in one has crossed my mind in the past too.

I'd take a Martini in .303 any time if it had a good chamber. I had chance at two years ago with tight chambers. You could change the case from on to the other without effort. I think they were rebuilt carbines...

My thinking is to drill out the bore on carbine. To the max that I can. Then take a standard Enfield .303 form it down to this inside dia. Expoy or silver solder together. Now the issue would be to cut extractor slot. I know there is more to it. But this is my basic thinking. I am not a machinist. I am red neck scrapper :super::super::madsmile::madsmile:

You may need to convert the existing extractor/ejector with an addition inside the existing fingers...you'll have to take material out for the extraction by comparing it to the existing extractors...? We have threads about this but nothing conclusive and no pictures of the extractors/ejectors.
