Is the bottom of the foregrip flat? Does it have an M2 cut? Also look for a "W" stamped inside the top on the right in front of where the recoil plate goes. The stock you have sounds like a Winchester but what type, ???

carbine dummy here, ok flat under the fore grip. low wood and no m2 cut out.the area in front of the recoil plate is where the small repair is with a tiny chip of wood missing, so i cant see anything there. thanks Al

Here is a better picture showing the flatter profile of a Winchester stock,

These next couple pictures show the letters or numbers that Bill H was talking about, often found stamped inside of Winchester stocks. We assume they are inspection stamps or from shift managers,

A Winchester stock will also have 3 holes drilled under the buttplate,

Winchester had 3 stamps or styles used for the cartouche. The early Type I stock was a Hi-wood with a I cut (oiler slot) The WRA over GHD was boxed and had no periods between the letters,

Later type II oval cut hi-wood and early type III lo-wood stocks could be found stamped with W.R.A. over G.H.D. and the crossed cannons. I just realized I don't have a picture of that one. Then at or about 5,6 mil they just used the Crossed Cannons stamp like in this picture,

Realized I forgot to mention that early Winchester I cut Hi-woods can also be found with the 'unboxed' W.R.A. over G.H.D. and CC. This same stamp can be found on Type II and III stocks.
