No.4 (T) Routine questions

I have 2 questions. First there's a semi-circular gap in my receiver right where the bolthead meets. Is that a gas vent of some kind? I don't anything similar on my Mausers.

In the next picture, are those brass pins? I see them on the fore ends and the stock too. If so why brass?

And the last, that D ring right in front of the mag well keeps getting jammed between the magazine and that little loop. Have to dig it out with my finger to pull mag out. And flip it out of the way to seat mag. Not really a question, more of a complaint. :thdown:

"Semi circular cut out" = to allow the extractor to 'move'.

"Brass pins" = these hold the back end of the forearm from spreading and splitting the wood. They are peened over 'rods' so brass is easier to peen

"Sling swivel" = it is designed to do this to stop the sling getting twisted. You can tell repro sling swivels because they generally 'swivel' all the way around.

There is no need to remove the magazine, these are carefully 'tuned' to fit the rifle and removing / replacing can easily knock the 'ears' 0.002" and stop the mag from feeding properly.

The principle of the Enfield is that you load it from chargers and never remove the magazine. In the case of the 4T the scope means this cannot happen and so you load 'singles' by hand. A sniper is unlikely to ever need more than 10 shots 'in a hurry'

It is far easier to single load the rifle with the magazine in place than pull the mag put the rifle down to reload the mag then reinsert faster as well. If hunting the only way is single load to keep the mag full with no lost rounds or magazine particularly if wearing gloves.

^^^This in spades.

If you have a nicely working rifle that feeds all 10 rounds slickly, the very last thing you want to be doing is removing the magezine on a regular basis and risk any unwanted 'adjustment' to the ears!!!

Just because you can take it out, doesn't mean you should.
