BIRTHDAY GIRL

Finally got my 1920 Lithgow to the range for a birthday bash.
Usually do this on Australia Day, but with all that's been going on this year and the range just re-opened, this is the earliest I could do.

At the rate I'm going, a birthday per year means I will be 105 before I'm finished....maybe I can make it, my mother is 103 and still going strong..

1902 range pattern rifle with no range sights Muff poor form. :D

The Range sights that came with it are worth more than the rifle itself Bindii, currently residing in my sight collection.....I will find a surplus BSA No.9 sight for it that will be period correct.

The 1920 Lithgow is gorgeous!

Ok so what sight came on the rifle then. Can we have a photo of it and a BSA No9 then so we mere mortals can be educated in the finer things in shooting. :D . I take it the 19 has passed by now.:thup:

I will take a couple of pic's tomorrow, The 19 did a lot of damage, 70% lung function remaining, Heart and Kidney damage and more tests next week.

She's a pretty sick puppy.

as promised, the sight I took off was an LSA 1909 SIGHT patent No. 12,672, these sights are relatively flimsy and prone to damage being of tubular construction.
Finding one undamaged albeit well worn, is a bonus.

The sight that will go on is also a 1909 sight, patented by William McCubbin as patent No. 16,594/09 and made under licence by BSA. by using this sight I will not feel beholden to fit a rear volley sight, as it is part of the No.9 sight.

This rifle was only in service for 10 years, then into the hands of a Target Shooter, fitted with a LAKES SPECIAL barrel, all in all a good example of an early Range Pattern Rifle.
