They are Marines could be late as 1942

Too bad we can't see the gas cylinders, with those helmets they could be Gas Traps.

Yes, the Marines got the leftovers it always seemed and outdated gear. This one's early though, I'd bet on it. I know the watermark says USMC but I have my doubts...unless you can show me something else.
They fit the Army summer dress uniforms to the "T", except for the tie... U.S. ARMY UNIFORMS QUICK REFERENCE VISUAL GUIDE

They look almost purposefully hidden. My James Bond riddled brain imagined this was a REALLY early picture and hiding the gas trap was a counter espionage move.
I can have fun all by myself haha.

gas trap era pistol grip
Almost to the end of gas trap production, the top of the pistol grip is almost round or a oval shape, when the new SA SPG stocks with the two equal sized holesAttachment 108695 entered service in mid 1940, the pistol grip is narrow like the ones in the photo. I would guess the rifles are early gas port

Jim-- I believe your correct on that one, the tie was optional based on the local commander. I did love that uniform.
