Has anyone tried Danish oil on beech wood ? I have read it dries quicker and is less sticky than linseed oil. Goes on less blotchy. Is this all hype or ?? Please comment if you have tried it.

I have tried it and because after sanding the Beech can be hard like glass...the stain runs off. I had to thin it to get it to suck in and then it took a bit to dry. Still, I wipe it down and it's done. When adding you just apply a bit on a rag like oiling the metal. All I use is Danish oil...
Try alcohol based stain on beech woodwork. Your problem will be solved. Just make sure you wear gloves because it will stain your fingers for sure if you don't.
It's interesting, I use Liberon spirit based stain followed by RLO on NOS No4 beech and it works very well.
In contrast, using the same process on NOS M2 Carbine beech woodwork and the stain has a 'much' tougher job penetrating the grain.
I'm heading back to the workshop with mine for another go this weekend, as I'm not happy with the finish yet.
