Carl Gustaf Swedish Rolling Block Sporter--completed—
Greetings Milsurps.com friends.
Carl Gustaf Swedish Rolling Block Sporter-- completed—
This is a project I’ve been finishing up during the shutdown.
I actually started this way way back (I only paid 85 bucks for the action so that tells you how long ago).
I started with an 1867 Carl Gustaf Swede action that I found at a gun show. I bought the 45-70 barrel blank from Green Mountain Barrel Co. (beautiful mirror rifling).
I decided to leave the action finish as it came, a nice patina and still pretty crisp looking, with good markings. I threaded the barrel on my old 10 inch Clausing. This action uses the sliding extractor system which requires the machining of a slot in the left side of the barrel thread area. The other unique feature is the barrel (just under the chamber) must be cleared for the shape of the breech block. Shaping the stock was not easy as the wood was hard as a rock. Thank God for the bandsaw and milling machine (for inletting the tangs and barrel groove). Anyway Its done except for some sling attachments and maybe down the road I’ll checker the stock.
Cheers, Salt Flat

working on rolling block rifles
You are doing excellent work, just have to take your time on the stock. i have built-up two Remington rolling blocks over the years and would do more if I could find the actions.
My first was a Remington 43 cal from South America that my father bought from Hunter's Lodge for $9.95, very rusted and the wood no good. I converted it to 22 rim fire, bent the lower tang and used a blank of California walnut. Not being happy with the Remington triggers, I made my own trigger and sear, much better pull now. Also made the scope blocks.
My other was a M1902 that I installed a Numrick 45-70 barrel and found some aftermarket wood. Also made a large tang sight. Did alot of black powder with 500 gr bullets and even made a paper patch mould, but they really did not shoot any betterAttachment 109722Attachment 109723Attachment 109721Attachment 109720Attachment 109724
