Interesting picture. What's the ring on the right hand of the soldier on the left (as we see it) and is that an M1 carbine trailing behind him?

You can see from this picture why it's better to wound than to kill. If the guy was dead; one less enemy. But wounded; you've taken 3 guys off the line.
True. A leg wound keeps him out of the fight for about three months, depending.
