ISO: M1 Carbine SN 4262636
Hello, as the title states I’m looking for a very specific Carbine. It was my grandfathers, who passed it to his son upon death, who sold it to make a quick buck back in the mid 90’s (I was born in 90). From what I can tell, it should be a National Postal Meter?
This is just coming from my mother giving me a shoebox of my grandfathers things, in which was the original receipt and military shipping form 1149 from when he bought the rifle in 1967. I would be willing to pay slightly above retail to bring it home if the owner was open to selling it. I originally posted this on Reddit, and am waiting for my CMP account to get approved so I can post it there as well. Any shares, tips, or help is appreciated!
National Postal Meter 4262636
Welcome Ryan,
Glad to see you made it over.
A 4262636 would be a NPM, May be a U stamp, which would be a sub contract made receiver for NPM made by US&S - Union Switch and Signal but I'm not positive and no lists near by at the moment.
You might want to try the Carbine Collectors Club forum. They might be able to look it up and see if anyone ever turned in a Data Sheet on it (as I described on the other forum).
Keep searching, the current owner may try a search of their serial number one day and come across you posting about looking for it. Like I just did and pulled up many results showing where you've posted inquiries about it. I don't do Facebook but I've heard of groups that are in to Milsurps. Try anything you can think of. World can be smaller than you think at times.

Here's a current topic there I posted about Mis-stamps on NPM's near your range:
