Royal Commission

This has been a long road for one of our senators to actually get on the road most of us know her as Jacqui Lambi in Tasmania and an ex-ADF officer.
She has pushed long and hard in the face of the govt and does not hold back at times getting a fair bit emotional over the continual lack of effort by the govt with vet suicides.
Now on the news it was stated the commission will happen but the results and recommendations report will not be available until 2023.

Whilst I am not a vet I was the son of a WWII vet and often think my father suffered from his experiences from o/seas service never ever talking about it to me and I never asked.
I think for too long govts of the day have sat on their hands hoping the problem would go away which sadly it hasn't and won't go away.
Too many of these fine people who did the govts bidding by giving us peace and security come back broken and disillusioned with no safety net.
The poor old G.P is not trained nor geared to the phycological impact some of these service men and women have from what they have seen and done.

I'm not commenting on other countries but if its anything like ours then the vets suffer most of them in silence being proud of their service.
All I can do is hopefully light a candle in cyberspace which will show from me personally your not forgotten.
It is a grand thing to remember those that gave it all going along that blood red road from previous conflicts and so we should remember them for all eternity.
But let us not leave behind those that have returned from those fires to be alone and unaided.

It's been a long fight to get this commission up and running, this deal is very close to my heart, losing friends and family and seeing at first hand the effects on both the individual concerned and their families.
SCOMO did his best to weasel out, but we caught him out....but the battle has only just begun, plenty of time to fiddle with the findings yet.

IT'S A TRUST THING.

It's in the US also. Massive suicide rates among veterans here. Way above normal society. They are trying to get help passed for them but not having much luck.

Same here. Those who come back are pretty much alone. We have some sort of help, but one of the problems seems to be also the shame some seem to feel for having trouble getting alone out of some situations. And they seem to need to ask for help, in a proactive way in order to get some.
One of my best friends was working on one of our jets in Spain a few years ago (2015), when the Greek F16 hit the ground and put the whole hangar in flames, killing a lot of people. He got a few bruises, but it took him some time to get rid of the nightmares for the burnt people he saw and tried to help. 9 of the injured were his mates.
He got help, but only after asking for it, some time after the fact.
Now he’s ok…I believe. He never addresses that event, but seems to be fairly ok.
