No4 rifle bedding

I fitted a new forend to a No4 that had been sporterized. In the process, I lost the 2 stage trigger pull. I think the obvious answer is that the orientation of the trigger guard is different. My guess is that it is now a little further out from the action

I think you need to remove a sliver of wood under the trigger guard.

Assemble the trigger guard to the action with the correct height "king" screw collar. See if you have 2 stage trigger contact. If OK then trigger assembly is being held high by wood and it needs to be "carefully" relieved. if NG then your trigger has been modified - not uncommon in a sporter.

Make sure the trigger guard is perfectly straight before you start removing wood. I use a my barrel indexing plate glass to check them with the trigger removed. Carefully follow Peter Laidler's forend fitting instructions posted here and you should be able to cure the problem with minimal effort.
