7.92x57 (8mm) Romanian ?
I stopped by one of my local gun shops yesterday and was looking around. I noticed a bunch of boxes of surplus ammo sitting on a shelf marked 7.62x54R I asked to see it because I had never seen surplus ammo 54R in that type of box. Looking at it I knew the minute I saw it that it was not 54R ammo. The sales guy insisted it was and I told him it had no rim and it looked to be 8MM Mauser to me.
When I got home I looked it up on the web and I think the ammo is 7.92x57 Romanian, can someone confirm? I would like a box for my ammo collection but this shop wants $30.00 US for 20 rounds. Kind of a stiff price for me, yet I haven't seen this before.
Another question I have is the primers are marked in red, I'm guessing sealant, and there is a red band around the base of the bullet and case mouth. Is there a significance to either of the red marks or just simply sealant?

I agree the lacquer around primer and case mouth is just sealant and of no further importance. Yes, it sure looks like 8mm ammo, looks like Wolf brand too. Don't know how a guy working in the industry could be fooled into thinking that was a "Rimmed" anything.

Looks an awful like the Romanian 8mm that was plentiful about 20 years ago. Shot pretty well, but a bit under powered, and the burnt powder had a rather unpleasant smell.

Common Rom surplus , it was all over and cheap about 10 years ago . It is a different load than most with a .321 dia 154 grain bullet with a steel core at about 2600 fps .
