Small Pouch

Anyone know what this was used for? Seller thought for a compass but seems too small for that. One website calls it a parts pouch but again, seems rather unspecific. This is only about 3 inches and more closely resembles a coin purse than anything else.

That would have come with our machine gun issue spare parts kit. There was a tool roll and several other things, this would have had a sear and spring/pin and could be carried in the pockets. This would be back in the 70/80's and for our 1919A4/C5 machine guns.
