Previous owner of my no4 drilled out the aperture in the mk1 singer sight. As such really inaccurate.
Have sourced a replacement cursor/ slide but can’t find any instructions on how to disassemble the sight. Would be grateful if anyone could signpost me to it, or share insight.
Have tried a search and could only find guidance on removing the sight from the rifle.

Drift out the retaining pin below the elevation knob and pull the elevation screw up. Be careful, because at this point the detent plunger (or ball) and its spring will try to launch off the bench and into your shag carpet. Remove the elevation screw the rest of the way, push the little barrel out of the slide and pull the slide off.

Following from what Steve said, you may think I'm daft suggesting this but it might be worth holding the sight assembly in a clean bucket as you withdraw the spindle. Then if the plunger/ball bearing attempts to enter Earth orbit you will catch it in the bucket. The ball bearings are worse for this than the plunger, but both can be a pain.
Do it inside of a plastic dry cleaners bag.
Just remember NOT to put your head inside the bag for too long :madsmile:
This way you will not lose the ball or the spring when they launch into orbit
Sometimes the pin will come out easily. Others, I have not been able to shift it before the punch bends.

Now, how to re-assemble with the ball-bearing detent?!
I generally replace ball bearings with plungers, as they are slightly less of a nightmare. A blob of graphite grease or similar will allow you to seat the spring & plunger/ball bearing. I have some old thin shim steel that I 'fiddle' between the plunger & the threaded range adjustment spindle as I replace the spindle & push it home. It is still a buXXer to get the shim steel out without everything flying apart, but with a little practice......
No doubt others will have their own solutions that they have hit on.......& I'm always up for learning a better way of doing it!

Managed to strip the sight down to component form. Had to use penetrating oil and heavy force with the punch to get the spindle retaining pin out. The slide/ cursor was also difficult to remove. Lot of resistance in the final 20% of movement before becoming free.
I used a large clear freezer bag to work in to prevent the loss of any ball bearings or springs. Worked a treat.
Now awaiting the arrival of the replacement slide/ cursor. Hopefully fate will be kind during the reassembly
