1917 Enfield from Ethiopia(?)
Picked this 1917 SMLE up yesterday at the local fun show. I believe it is one of the rifles that came out of Ethiopia recently. The rifle itself is your bog-standard example with mixed parts, 1942 dated barrel, Lithgow trigger guard, etc. But the really interesting feature is the 'coin' put in place where the brass disc was. The rifle is apart and soaking at the moment (beyond dirty) but with a surprisingly good bore.
Would love to know about the coin. It looks very similar to Mughal Empire examples I've seen online, but not completely certain. When would these rifles have been supplied to Ethiopia?
I'd say this one would have some stories to tell!
