I just received 300 110g copper plated bullets from Breeys. A warning cam with them about staying below 1600fps. Has anyone used these and will they still function the action at 1600fps? I don't have any powder near as fast as those listed just Bullseye and H4895 and I don't think there would be the pressure curve at the gasport that is required. So how do I pick a powder for say 1500fps and still have good cycling?

Seriously, you may want to try a low load of 2400. My Speer book lists 10.0 gr of 2400 as 1469 fps. I do know that some of my "light" loads with 2400 & FMJ (in the ~11 gr area) function the weapon just fine, but shoot low past 100 yards. I would recommend that you do some research through several reloading books.
I've used Berry's plated bullets at velocities as low as 1450fps (9.5gr AA#9). I was trying to stay close to pistol/subgun velocities so I wouldn't damage the steel targets in action matches. Accuracy, knockdown power, and cycling were adequate.
What seems to happen as you get over 1600fps is accuracy falls off a cliff and the bullets go all over the place. I mean really all over the place :yikes: While I wouldn't say it's bad enough to be dangerous I'm not Berry's liability lawyers either.
Keep them at or below 1600 and they do fine.

It's just my S'G'. So now I have hunt up some powder. I will try the 2400 I think. Nothing I have in stock is that hot/fast. I was surprised to find the regular pistol powders like Bullseye or Blue Dot won't work. Finding brass wasn't that easy. I remember leaving hundreds of LC cases on the ground years ago.

H110 and 4227 will also work in those ranges. Use the starting loads for any of those three powders and you should be ok.
Might you be MJ with the nice 'Mess Kit'.......

it would be. It's taken me a year to scronge dies brass and bullets and I'm still shot a proper powder. My kid sold the other S'G' so it's up to me to get this one running.

I have been lucking out and finding alot of Remington 110gr FMJ through Cabela's (of all places) over the last 6 months. I am paying "only" $14.99 per hundred and they are designed to take the higher pressures and velocities. While that price is high compared to the "old days", that still allows me to make a box of 50 rounds for about $11.00 (if I can find primers). Even though I have no problem with cast and electroplated bullets for pistol shooting, I personally am trying to stay away from them for the velocities found in carbine shooting. I have even lucked out and found some Remington 110 gr SP bullets for the same price - $11.00 a box of SP beats the heck out of the $45.00 per box for factory loaded Soft Points! Good luck on the powder....
I have had poor results using 2400 power in a carbine. It comes from non-burned power flakes getting all over the bolt face, chamber etc. Ok for a pistol but not for a semi-automatic. I have used only 4227 for twenty-five years with no problems.
4227? I have had gumming up problems with some powders and think I will get a sample of the 4227. I have to drive into the city today to pick up a guest flyinf in from the UK for a week of range days so I will hit a few of bigger supply stores. Is there a ball park starting point for 110g plated bullets around 1500 fps?
