The GI's belong to 1st Infantry Regt, 16th Infantry Division which liberated the village on June the 7th.
The soldiers are from left to right: Private Clem Lore, Caldwell, Ohio, Sergeant Vincent English, Providence, New York, and Sergeant Robert Ryan, Schenectady, New York.
Corn fed GI right there compared to the towns folk.
Smiles all around.
Is that a box or a paper bag on his rifle?
A "K" ration box I think. Individual meal, whatever the name at the time was. I've seen that several times in pics...Quote:
