I do not think it is common to find a scant stock (1903A1) with the rebuild stamp on the right side, the cut off has the SA stamp. Rifle is late WW1 Rock Island with Hatcher hole and RIA 11-18 barrel in nice condition, bolt is also straight handle Rock IslandAttachment 130351Attachment 130353Attachment 130354
iv seen more 1917s with the rebuild stamp on the right side. possible USMC build
Most intriguing piece of lumber. It does not have the relief cut for the handguard ring. I'm not sure I have ever seen a scant stock without this relief cut.
Here is another scant stock for the M1903A1
I believe these stocks were manufactured in 1942 and before the M1903A3 was available
which would explain the inlettingAttachment 130379Attachment 130380Attachment 130381
I have one as well, purchased from DuPage years ago. Interesting piece of wood that was GI boned to a nice finish, then sent to Greece and received fresh crisp stamps, some in the Greek alphabet. S mark in the mag cutoff, no A3 ring cut.Quote:

That is correct. Scant stocks with an "S" in the cutoff recess were made in early-to-mid 1942 before the M'03-A3 design was approved.
And San Antonio Arsenal (Boxed SAA stamp) regularly placed some of their overhaul inspection stamps on the right side below the receiver rear.
