M96 Swedish Mauser barrel and bayonet issue.

Hello all, I recently purchased my first M96 Swedish Mauser. By all appearances and markings, it is a 1918 Carl Gustaf build. I have just received what is supposed to be the correct bayonet for the rifle but when I tried to install it I discovered that the end of the barrel is flush with the front site. There is nothing for the ring on the bayonet to fit over. I have looked very closely at the muzzle and the crown appears to be factory. I hope that someone can shed some light on this. Thanks for any and all help.

Some of those had a threaded muzzle and I'll bet somebody didn't like it...had it turned off and re-crowned. That might have been the later models though. If done right it could look original and drop it in the bluing salts tank would cover perfectly. There should be about half inch in front of the sight.

That sounds reasonable. I really would like to have it re-barreled but it's an all numbers matching rifle and I would hate to lose any more of the originality.

Well you could probably find a barrel here in the WTB section with an ad but then you lose that number.
