BSA Tippins sight
I have one of these on a No.1 Mk.1. It appears to have a movable level on the left side of the receiver which can be moved rearwards, to allow the base of the sight to pivot from the right side, yet NOT enough to allow the bolt to be removed for propoer cleaning.
Does anyone have any Exp with these at all? I am sure I am missing something but don't want to take a screwdriver to it to dissassemble before I ask the old and the wise here.

I've seen a couple of these sights over the years, usually on M.L.E.s but unfortunately have never manipulated them as they were on someone else's rifle and I didn't want to mess with it. I do know they are very expensive when they come up for sale occasionally. One comment about your rifle's nomenclature, I don't believe there were any No.1 MkI rifles. If you have a MkI it was made before the Great Change when they added a Number prefix to all marks. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will jump in here and correct me. have you uploaded any pics of the rifle and sight?

I've got one of these somewhere but never fitted it so far. You are supposed to be able to remove the bolt I believe.
However there is some more info on the Tippins sight which might help here:

Thats the one I have - so the lever on the left pushes FORWARD. Perfect. it wouldn't go that way initially and I didnt want to force it, but at least I know it's supposed to now.

Wet day so decided to have a play, my sight will not fit the No.1 as it hits against the raised portion of the body.
Attachment 131378
It will fit the LLE if using a SMLE Bolt, the original bolt catches the sight on the shroud lugs.
Attachment 131377
It will fit the No.1 Mklll with wood removed and no safety.

The HWC will fit, not that it helps you.

The BSA/PARKER sight on Tippins base was circa 1910, the SHTLE replaced the No.1 in 1904.
