My latest acquisition, a .44 US Army Richards conversion, correct mixed serial numbers and all matching conversion numbers, 142. I don't know its history but it has been in NZ for many years. Despite the well-worn nickel finish it is in excellent mechanical order. I am chuffed to have it!

Originals that are in nice condition are very rare to find and quite expensive. I would not consider shooting an original with black powder but some owners hve shot them.
Back about twenty years ago I found an incomplete Uberti very cheap at a gunshow. it was missing the loading lever and cylinder, just a parts gun. I had a new 38 S&W cylinder for the Uberti 1851 Colt and decided to make a cartridge conversion like the gunsmiths did during the post Civil War days.
First, I had to make a recoil plate or shield out of good steel, than used drill rod for the firing pin and bushing. Also made the ejector rod housing and the parts to attach it to the barrel. I did purchase the Uberti SA ejector rod and mainspring. The original wedge was damaged so I made a new slightly oversize wedge. Next I made the loading gate and spring. I had the barrel only reblued. I used hollow base bullets of around 140grs either with light loads of Unique or black powder which work out fine.
