In the world at war 2 rifles stand out to me the Lee Enfield and the M1;
The Lee just worked it may not have been the fastest out there but it operated in conditions that most other weapons would have carked it and failed due to the ingress of mud & detritus through the action as allot of the old soldiers in the trenches used to urinate on the actions to clear the mud.
A battle winning rifle which has been serving for well over 100 years.
The M1 gave the user a fast rate of fire for a follow up shot and the 30/06 cartridge was on par if not better than the German 8mm service round.
The M1 just worked with a squad being able to lay down withering fire, this tipped the balance in favour of the allies another winner.
