Those Thompsons were really popular despite their weight and very short range. Limo driver in town carried one all through the war in Europe and loved it.
It does show how each weapon has it's niche the Thompson's just the ticket in room to room or close in where the long guns length is a bit of a hinderance.
The long gun doing what is it's forte accurate long range shots although we don't know the range besides the fact the 2 thompson GI's have got the long gun GI doing the business.
4th. I.D. patch on soldier with Garand. Those are carbine mag pouches, and he has a carbine hanging from his right shoulder. He looks like he can handle any weapon.
