I have a shot at a lovely Lithophane vintage German beer stein. For whatever reason I can't save the picture of the actual stein. It's named to the owner and I think it's from a dragoon regiment. Any idea of what a nice one of these goes for these days? If I get it, should I polish the pewter fittings or do you think that would damage the integrity of the piece. Thank you all in advance.
I can't help you with that one but a web search turns up plenty of beer steins. Just be very specific for what you are seeking.
I don't know if I didn't explain it well (call it a senior moment), but I'm talking about the beautiful colourful vintage steins that I think date from the late 1800's and very early 1900's, so maybe WWI vintage. The prices I see on ebay and other sites vary from $350-$900. I finally managed to capture a pic of the kind of stein I'm talking about.
OK, I finally managed to convert the webp format to jpeg and capture the picture of the actual mug. I'm getting this on Sat. so I'll have all the good quality pics I need. It's a vintage Lithophane regimental beer stein named to an owner. I believe it's a dragoon regiment, but I could be wrong (it's the second pic). When I get the mug I'll have the unit information.
I've got two bad elbows and a shoulder injury. I buy the short beers and drink from small glasses. Just looking at those things hurts my arms.

OK, I have the stein in my hot little hands but I need help translating the unit. The riband around the rim reads; "Drag. Regt. (2 Wurtt.) No.26.1 Gsk. (could also be Esk.-see pic) Stuttgart". Now, I assume it's for the Dragoon Regiment, 2nd Wurttemburg, then the unit number, out of Stuttgart and from other script on the lid, I'm pretty sure it's a reserve unit. It's named to a Georg Frank. Also looks like an impressive list of battle honours on either side of the handle. When looking at the inside of the stein and held up to the light, the figure of a man in uniform appears. Some basic research shows none of the indicators of a modern repro. Any idea as to era and value would be most appreciated. Thanks for looking and enjoy.
