Good Afternoon All,
While I am not a reenactor, I do own a RW uniform (reproduction) and two original RW muskets. The folks at the range asked me to come and shoot the original muskets in proper attire. Well, since they "forced" me....
Please note that while I am using paper cartridges, the range requires that we load at the back table and prime at the bench.

What's your impressions of the land Musket versus the Charleville - and which model of the latter do you have?
I'll say of the reproductions I've handle, the pedersoli and japanese made bess were nicer to handle than their Charleville counterparts - with the marine musket being an exception. I can't remember who made that one - but all of these were older 1970s and 80s era. My own slightly newer Ped Bess is still relatively well balanced and easy to handle and shoot. Its just not as well made and one day will get reworked. But looking at the differences between originals and repros, the original Charlevilles seem in particular lighter and more nicely contoured than the repros.
At individual size targets I've aimed along the top of the barrel and it worked out OK, but not sure tht would really work in volley fire. Will experiment on that another time, if I can set up on a 25 yard lane rather than a 50.

The Charleville is a 1766 model. For me, the two originals were not that much different to shoot. However, the LL was heftier and seemed a bit too bulky for my left hand. I am 6'1"/205lbs and can imagine how much heftier the LL may have seemed in the day.
I did prefer to shoot the Charleville but on the other extreme, it seemed a bit slender.

Barrel bands v. pins to hold the barrel. .72 v. 69 cal? Decisions, decisions.
Pins aren't that bad and the caliber difference not noticeable to me. However, the .72 does make a better presentation to the range buddies!! Randy
