Another SRS lookup please

What information does an "SRS" provide, and what does SRS stand for? I have three 1903s and might want to find out more about them.

Springfield Research Service and it has a list of martial arms serial numbers with details such as date of manufacture and issue. Four volumes I think? I only have number one.
