The good ol' Cat D4 was a mainstay of Sea Bee and Engineer battaliions during WWII.
Interestingly, California was just in the news about this particular issue. They've bought some Teslas for use as police cruisers and the police officers who use them are rejecting them because they were trained to use the block of an engine as armor in a shootout.
