Royal Tiger No.1 Mk3

Okay, blame me, I knew better, but so what? I ordered a Royal Tiger No1 Mk3. This the story. Not expensive, but who knows. The Enfield is a cut-down stock with a 1918 receiver. I suspect the barrel is out of Ishapore and is a beater. The fore end has a serious crack almost all the way through it. Someone has installed a large wood screw in it. It looks dreadful. No safety, no bolt, no magazine. If it were on a gun show table you would certainly just walk on by. Royal Tiger does not sell out of a shop, it is mail order or nothing. They do not accept returns. If you have a large box of Enfield parts, go for it, if not pass.

@15+ years ago I paid $100 (Missing alot of gear) for a Lithgow 1916 5MD No 1 MkIII, spent @9 times that on period correct bits with matching 1916 5MD Lithgow '07 bayonet & Lithgow 1916 5MD scabbard I know it will always be bitsa.
Sadly through my ignorance did not boil the barrel after shooting 1967 POF ammo which I suspect had mercuric primers corroded the bore so it's just a fair barrel now.

Something about making a silk purse out of a sow's ear comment is apropos.

When shooting suspect ammo I normally pull the bullet and re-load into Privi brass. I grew up in Honolulu and a learned the hard way to first clean the bore with soap and water, then clean again with Hoppes No.9. Nice barrels stayed nice with that routine. That was the old Hoppes that would stink up the house like crazy. My parents tolerated me and just open the front door. Honolulu was fun when I was growing up.
