Iraqi gas mask with decontamination kits

I received a Desert Storm era Iraqi gas mask yesterday complete with two accessory kits. One is a decontamination kit, not sure on the other. The second appears to be "dry" with wipes, etc but I haven't gotten into it yet. The first is complete with the liquids still in their containers.

Now I was once the NBC officer for my unit. I also went to school for this but that was 40 years ago, and we didn't go over Iraqi or Russian stuff which this likely was produced by.

I doubt it's hazardous but I'd rather not take any chances. I'm not sure if there are injectors in there or not and I do recall these are not healthy unless you were hit with something nerve agent related but should be safe just handling them. I just gave them a cursory look yesterday and put them in the basement.

Agreed. Any containers could be cleaned out and if you have the atropine injectors they can be emptied and needles blunted. I had one of our here for years for instructional purposed. I wouldn't keep anything liquid made by them that long ago.

As Engineers we received annual NBC training which meshed well with our hazardous materials technician training as the two aren't too far apart. Part of our personal decon training involved mitts that came in a package with diatomaceous earth which we were supposed to pat our masks and uniform down with before removing. I'm not sure what the liquid you have is. We also had practice atropine injectors to get used to using but were warned about playing around with the real ones if they were ever issued. Vehicle, aircraft, and other equipment decon involved washing the equipment down and capturing the run off.

I'm busy with rifle right now so I can't do much of anything with them until the weekend. I was afraid they would be frozen and broken yesterday as delivery was around 10:00 when it's NEVER that early and we were in single digits. My wife couldn't bring it in until 2:00. Nothing appeared to be broken or wet, some containers are glass, some plastic, that's about as far as I looked.

Rubber glove handling for sure. Where to empty the stuff? That's problem number two.

Take a long walk down a gravel road and just dump it. No one's going to be handling the gravel with their hands. Remember it was all meant originally to be in contact with skin. Stale yes, unserviceable for sure but I wouldn't think dangerous like plutonium...

I like that idea but I live in an area where finding a gravel road will be difficult LOL.

Pour it all in a pail and fill the pail with water...pitch it down the foot of your driveway and wash it down with a hose...

As for the fuller's earth, it was always fun to watch the senior recruit class taking NBC training. You'd see them between classes covered in this grey dust. Eyes, ears and hair. Completely covered.

Fuller's earth! Yes, of course. I had forgotten it's true name, thank you.

Took a quick peek inside the canisters today. What I thought were wipes in the one were just a small layer of wipes over several more plastic containers. The weather has been miserable, and I don't want to mess with these inside the house, so I did nothing with them yet. Everything on them appears to be Arabic and there is a lot of writing on them.

In the meantime, here are some photos. I took a few myself but they seem to have disappeared. These are the eBay photos and they aren't bad. Just don't show the case with the mask in it. One other inaccuracy is that the tab on the green can shown in photos 3 and 5 is shown straight out, it's actually supposed to clip around the bottom of the can. I bent it back to the correct position.
