Correct Bayonet for Late Production No5 Mk1

I just recently acquired a nice No5 Mk1 Jungle Carbine dated 8/47. I originally was thinking the No5 bayonet would be correct for it then noticed that the No7 seemed to have been designed to fit it as well. I quickly noticed too that the No5 bayonets are not particularly plentiful and at least one I looked at was priced close to what I paid for the rifle. There seem to be more of the No7 bayonets around and the price is somewhat lower. I would like what I buy to be correct for the 8/47 manufacture date. Any help, comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have seen several vendors advertise a reproduction No5 bayonet. It seems to be the same exact item offered by all of them ranging from $60 to just over a $100. In the adverts they toss around "Ishapore" I'm skeptical and would probably pass on the repro.

#7 bayonet would never fit a #5 rifle. Look closer at it and you'll see. Late #5 might want a late #5 bayonet with two screws in the grip scales. Fact is, whatever comes off the storesman's shelf is what goes into the EIS bag and out with the issue. Maker be dammed...

No5 bayonet is proper. They occasionally show up on eBay for $200. The repros aren't bad. I have one that I picked up before I got 4 or 5 originals all in a hurry. I drilled a cleanout hole in it and did a few other things to make it more correct. Ishapore did make them but they are marked and almost as rare as the British made ones. They would not be sold as repros because they are originals.

BAR is dead right........ Your rifle would come from the regimental armoury with the next bayonet on the shelf. It didn't matter to you or the storeman whether it had one or two screws, shiny or black/grey blade, late or early or any of the manufacturers..........., just so long as it clicked firmly in place

Thanks to all that have commented on my post. As was suggested I found one on eBay that was the correct bayonet for my Jungle carbine. It is in good condition and it fits perfectly.

Good choice - Poole-made and they produced the bayonets till 1947.
