Hi Temp Grease for the M1 Garand

Grease is grease but I now know why high temperature axle grease is recommended rather than plain ole grease.

I made the mistake of spraying 1 million coats of Pledge on my M1 wood because it really made it shine. I rapid-fired 2 to four clips in succession and noticed the wax coating on my lower handguard liquify into droplets. The rifle at this area was virtually too hot to handle.

I've read somewhere that during combat, firing the M1 became so intense (prolonged) that the handguards charred, caught fire, smoldered.

Therefore, I now understand why high temp, high pressure grease is recommended. I wonder if Hoppes gungrease is high temp/high pressure?

John Kepler has some good insights on this. The original GI grease is available but there are some real high tech alternatives out there.
