::dunno:Picked up an 1898 carbine last weekend for $230.00 . The stock has been sporterized and I want to return it to mil-spec. Am looking for a buttplate and front sight. Can anybody help me out? Also, is an '03 buttplate the same or not?

Not, they are checkered and the door is larger. Were you not restoring an original, I'd recommend it, I put one on repro stock that I use as a shooter. fit is good, and it sticks to my shoulder better.
Early 03 butts look very close. I believe that the 03's are a little wider and slightly thicker. It is really hard to tell the difference. Later 03 butts were checkered.
Try Joe DeChristopher, he has lots of Krag parts.
