For those of you who visit or as vendors with the Old Dominion Gun Shows in central and Northern Virginia will be saddened to learn of the death of "Mr. CARBINE" Guy M. Bowling. Guy was a show regular for many years. He takes with him a vast storehouse of M1 Carbine information. He could spot a restoration at 50 feet. Arrangements are incomplete as of noon 26 April, 2009. As crankey as Guy was he will be missed by all. May God welcome you home.
Very sad news indeed. We'll miss Mr. Bowling. To me, he was every bit THE Mr. Carbine. From offering to look over a newly purchased rifle to helping out with problems with an old one, he was the man to see. He refused to take money for most of his services and was always quick to offer advice on who had the good carbines for sale and who should be avoided. He also had just the right expertise and parts to solve any War Baby problems. As I recall, he served as a small arms armorer for many years in the U. S. Army. His presence at the local shows has been missed for the last several years when his health became more of an issue. Landtrain, please keep us updated with the service arrangements so that we can pay our respects.
Guy will definitely be missed.
It has always been nice swinging by and talking to you both at the Dale City show (as well as at the old show down at Hugo's). My carbine addiction was not solved by our many sessions picking apart carbines and seeing what parts got mixed and matched over the years but that was just another talent that Mr. Carbine demonstrated regularly... His generosity with his time and knowledge superceded his crankyness and the first thing I looked forward to was bringing a new carbine over to your table with the flashing siren lights and getting Mr. Carbine's opinion on the find...

Although I did not know or have the opportunity to meet him, it's rare to find an honest, helpful dealer, that's not out to take advantage of the newbies and willingly shares their knowledge. Folks like him are few and far between. Too bad there are not more like him. Sorry to hear of his passing.
As of noon today, 28 April, Found and Sons Funeral Chapel 540 891-8735 has no services planned for Guy. I'm not sure how to proceed from here with out causing additional grief. I'll call the funeral home again this evening and keep you posted.
