The Iraq war; here's one thing it can teach us

If you are upset about the way things are going in this country, I think this video says something important to you and to me.

Beyond the story itself, it proves there are people in this country who love it, who are willing to sacrifice for it as this man did. And is doing.

We've got some great fellow Americans; let's build on that by doing something positive, something to make a difference.

As a man I try not to get wet eyes,but I did!

There is one old saying that applies well to Iraq: "Look before you leap!"

The military thought they could deal easily with the Iraqi army and they were correct; it really was "mission accomplished." If "war" is defined as fighting between the official armies of sovereign nations, we won the war easily. But we never considered that mutual hatred of Saddam was the only force holding that country together, and when he left the scene things collapsed.

As an Army captain told me, the war went fine - the peace has been hell.

Boy do I know how the father of that lieutnant felt! My own son came back from a seek and destroy mission in Afghanistan with a serious head trauma after an RPG rocket hit the spot where he was shooting from.
Now, one year later, he's back with his buddies "hunting talibans". As he explained, he prefered being with experienced guys like his buddies than going later and find himself with rookies which could sometimes be as dangerous as the enemy itself (lack of experience on the field, risk of friendly fire etc).

Lets hope this time everything goes fine for our boys.

Well most of this prolonged Iraqi mess is what happens when you put a civilian in charge of the reconstruction. First thing that klown did was disband the Iraqi army against the strenuous objections of all the military leaders in theater and out. Also they really should have waited until Afghanistan was much more stable before doing Iraq (I don't object to Iraq war at all, just the timing).

I hated to miss the Gulf War II, I did seven months out there for the first gulf war, three years in between then and now doing no fly zone stuff but Afghanistan ended my career before I got to go back and finish what I started way back in 90 https://www.milsurps.com/images/impo...05/13859-1.gif

Well my best wishes go to you and your son and bless his heart for his wounds and his continuing service.

Hopefully he doesn't have too my funky things with his brain over the next many years, head wounds and trauma are really strange critters and there is no way of knowing what is going to happen or when, you really get sick of neurologists - those guys have no humor at all fer petes sake.

And it was almost casual: car bomb in Baghdad market kills 30, another in Mosel kills 20 blah, blah. Like they were talking about chickens, or bugs. I thought, man, if that was happening here, we be going nuts. But its them, so no big deal.
What a sick defective society they live in, no national loyalty, no brotherly love, nothing but corruption and revenge. Those are some sick people. And while we may have given them an excuse, this would be going on with or without us. We need to dee dee out of that AO ASAP.
