Afternoon chaps,
I have an L12A1 kit coming for my L1A1, hope to pick it up in a couple of weeks..... Now, our very own Peter and Tankhunter have both given me excellent advice on the use of and maintenance hints for this kit.
Does anyone else have much experience with them, ammo they particularly like etc, my only previous dealings with this sort of thing is a Morris aiming tube I once owned.... I do hope they aren't as fragile as that was!

I've read all the evidence of fragility put forward here but I had NO experience with any. I used them as much as possible when I carried an FN in the field in Canada, illegal as it may have been at the time. I used them for full automatic fire and stalking small game to feed the troops in the field. I used whatever ammo came to hand and it seemed to perform well with anything. This of course would be full power hi-velocity ammo. Use normal .22 cleaning materials, keep it oiled and no boresnakes please...
I have tested a variety of 22LR ammo in my L12A1, including RWS Rifle Match, Eley Match, CCI, and Remington Viper. The best 5 shot groups of 0.6" were obtained with the cheapest ammo (€2.50), CCI. The Eley 'Match cost € 12.15 a box and was definitely not as good.Quote:

There is another Cdn kit available right now on gunnutz in the 12X section. Asking price is $800. It is apparently HK marked with no British broadarrows, but is in the Cdn case.
Upon looking at my kit again, I see where the number on top of the box (669) was erroneously painted on after the repaint. The original number readable under the layer of paint on the lid is 699, which matches the serial numbers on all the components including the magazines which are marked 699a and 699b. So it would seem that the former LCMM I was talking to was absolutely correct when he mentioned we had British broadarrow marked kits adopted into the Cdn system. Even my Cdn NSN'd barrel has the Brtish Broadarrow on it. There is also the letter C which is stamped slightly differently on the components and makes me wonder if that indicated Cdn.
Whether the kits came through British service, or the broadarrows were merely part of the drawings that H&K followed, would be the big question.
I wonder if they came back from CFE with units rotating back?...Originally?
I don't think that's the case. Not much went back and forth on rotations of units in the first place. Secondly though, my barrel, which is stamped with the Cdn NSN, matches the serial numbers in the rest of the kit. The barrel also has the broadarrow on it. I'm thinking HK automatically placed the arrow there as per their drawings. They may not have understood the significance. of it. Aside from the NSN for the set, the NSN for the case, and the NSN for the barrel, the remainder are all NSN'd the same as their British coutnerparts with German (identifier code 12) NSNs.

They certainly are a roar aren't they? I've used them way more than my share, wish I had an FN and one of those still.
