I'm guessing a number broke or wore out and was replaced with the wrong size or maker until discovered or the right one became available.
I'd like to see what documentation exists for the stamping.
The regular blueprint doesn't show the type font.
I have a few early drawings, but not of the receiver.
Some early prints given to Winchester (Winchester marked at least) got digitized and posted online many moons ago. They seemed to be take homes. Lots of coffee stains, ect. What was interesting is that some were essentially Rev-0 prints dated 1937. I wonder if they were copied from the original drawing package SA tried to get Winchester to pay $1200 for in the late 30s. Not to detract overmuch from the point of the thread, but I include an early drawing.
Unfortunately the only tooling drawings in that package are of the magazine well broach dimensions.
If anyone has any info related to the stamping font used?
