I have read that the gas trap Garands were very accurate because the base of the bullet was not touching the bore when the operating rod started to move.
I wonder what would happen if a gasport barrel was counterbored to just touch the gas port. Would that somewhat duplicate what happens with a gastrap M1? If functioning problems occurred, gas port size could be adjusted. Now there's a project for one of you guys with a bad barrel to experiment with.
