Mick/Roger - I have recently become aware of Whittaker and John Knott 'specials' and would be interested in pictures or information on either/both. Probably a bit off-topic for LE's but I suspect both produced target rifles principally from Enfield actions?
John, I am not familiar with John Nott, can you illuminate with any further details please?
Probably the best Target Rifle conversion of a No 4 I have ever seen was by GL & IJ Hart (Cheltenham) a fellow LERA friend of mine owns it currently. (I am still working on him!)
AH, yes... John Nott the Conservative Defence Minister of many moons ago. Served with the RASC as a National Serviceman in Korea. Was he into rifles as well?

I know of the name John Nott but have never knowingly seen his work. On the other hand, the pal of bert Whittaker's from whom I bought the 4 x No4 T receivers, was indeed Geoff Hart: and I'm afraid you're right, I didn't take much notice of the specials because I was too busy thinking about the 4 snipers I could faithfully rebuild! A good mate of mine now has the Trials T & I still have one of the 44 BSA's. Not sure who best to ask about the Whittakers, sorry.

From the little I have managed to glean both Whittaker and Knott built target rifles after the war for the target shooting fraternity. John Knott assembled rifles for the British 1948 Olympic team - 6/7/9of? and I think was based in Kingston? Surrey. I suspect they generally used Nr 4 or P14 actions with purpose made stocking, set triggers oftimes, barrels by? -???.
The late 40's, 50's and 60's must have seen some interesting developments from Service to target disciplines.
