1943 Maltby No4 Mk1 T F.M.P. marked

The cheekpiece, scope pads, and guard screw swivel are all reproductions produced at NoDak Spud in Minnesota and assembled on bog standard No.4's in St. Albans, VT. Caveat Emptor!

Brian, was this the outfit that were using metric screws instead of BA's? That's another pretty good sign because so far as I recall, metric 4BA screws are a bit on the rare side.............!

To be honest, I haven't a clue what type screws they used at Century Arms. It looks like a variety in the pictures. I've never had one of the cobbled up rifles through my shop.

I've got a personal '43 date BSA/H&H "T" on the website now that I restored years ago. You coached me on fitting the forend and serviced the Mk.II scope. It was one of my personal favorites for shooting, is sighted in and range ready. I wish someone would give it a good home. Of course, it's considerably more expensive than a Century Arms conversion but you get what you pay for and it's advertised honestly as a BDL FTR. Take care.

Superficially at least, the front pad looks quite good in the photos. Have you ever measured up any of these copy body pads? Also the swivel is complete with the thinly stamped broad arrow, exactly as on many of the wartime originals (even same style). Are they as good as they look & would they stand up to the late Graham Smith test?!

I've never measured a set of their pads but guess what, I have a set here as supplied by the owner of the company a few years ago. You're welcome to them as I've never had a need and I'll bring them over when I come. I phosphated them as they were in the white when I received them.

Looking again at the guard screw swivel on the subject Maltby rifle, I'd say it's an original, not one of NoDak Spuds'. The screw slot is notably buggered too. He did make repro guard screw swivels too though and I have two here if anybody needs a decent repro. They don't have the Broad Arrow stamp on them and were also supplied in the white so I've since phosphated and painted them with Suncorite 259. See you soon.

Alan, If it were only that easy. Shipping them over isn't that difficult but you have to do your part first and it'll never get done in a weeks time.

Well, I bought the rifle and have it mated with a 1943 No32 MKI scope.

I have just shot it to rough zero. I will have it out to a proper range to see what it can do.

The scope is one that I got that was little more than a tube, parts and a prayer. I sent it off to Warren (Thanks:thup:) for a complete rebirth. He did an excellent job.

She looks great and I am very happy.
