wondering if the clip used my contribute to the problem?
Clip latch spring, what Gus F said.
you guys talking about the enblocs could very well be on to something.
i dont think its the entire problem, but i do think i have a few that i got from cheaper than dirt, and i do believe they were having a higher failure rate.
i did install a new oprod, and a new ejector, and it has definitly improved.
it has gone from doing it 5-6 times per outing (80-100 rounds) to just once the last time out.
i went through 3 ejectors just seeing what they would do. i took 2 extra ones with me, and did see a difference, albiet not really from a reliability standpoint, but just the direction it ejects.
the first ejector consistently flings them about 4-5 oclock, pretty close on the second one, lol, and the third straight up and back down on the top of my head.
so anyway, i have another extractor on the way and figure i will try that out too while im playing with it.
i would like to be able to eject forward somewhat.
if it seems like this thread has turned into ejection direction my apoligies, but i really think the jamming problem is related.
i even thought about starting an ejector and extractor tuning thread because im having trouble finding info on tuning them.
"...if the clip used my contribute to the problem?..." My thought exactly. Clip isn't releasing the cartridge properly. If it happens with all your clips it's in the rifle.
When trouble shooting anything, always start with the easy, inexpensive, stuff first. Changing the op rod isn't inexpensive.
That feed ramp doesn't look right either.
which feed ramp?
you got me to wondering about it, if you mean the ramp on the left? so i went and looked at my other springfield and it actually looks exactly like that too. like the ramp is either cut too deep, or the barrel not screwed in all the way, but since my other rifle looks like that too im thinking that part is ok.
i should have mentioned, but didnt think of it till you said that about the feed ramp, it always the cartridge on the right side that does it.
every single time.
and as far as the oprod goes, it was an exchange from cmp because the pads were very worn on the one it came with, which is the one in the pic.

upon the advice of the cmp, ive replaced the oprod, which actually passed the tilt test, but seemed to have excessive vertical play when observed from the side of the rifle, i think from quite a bit of wear on the little pads that keep it captured in the rails of the receiver(sorry for my lack of proper terminoligy, hope that made sense) it also didnt ride anywhere near center of the barrel.
Do what Gus said. Then, does your other rifle function ok with the same clips? Sounds like they are weak.
How much slop does the follower have in the receiver grooves? Compare it to your other rifle. You may have tried other followers but if the receiver grooves have wear it could be letting the follower tilt back a bit. I've seen some of these with the follower legs slightly bent to make up for it. Sounds half a$$ed but it they work.
good point. yes it does. in 500 rounds or so its had only 1 failure to feed. just click on the empty. i still think the clips have a little something to do with it though, even though they run well in the other rifle (the one with only one hiccup)Quote:

it is a fact that every single time its happened with the rifle in question, its been with a certain batch of clips i got at cheaper than dirt. they look ok, if not a little tight, and on the base say "AEC3"
the 2 rifles are similar in the follower fit, plus i measured the grooves in the receiver and according to the schematics stickied at the top of the forums, they are in spec.Quote:

i dont think i could bend them without breaking them, but i could probably peen one to give it more elevation in the rear.Quote:

i really think the extractor might have something to do with it. ive noticed that it protrudes further forward than my other one. like the extractor might be hitting the case instead of the whole bolt face.
i have another one coming from the cmp to try. those guys have really been good about working with me to straighten it out without having to send the rifle back, which if possible, i would like to avoid.
they did say that if i cant get it worked out i can always send it in and they will take care of it.
i do think its better now.
at first, it would jam or fail to feed 5-6 times in 10 clips. the last time out, it jammed once in about 8 clips, and it was with one of the cheaper than dirt clips.
it has never jammed or failed to feed to date on the clips that came with the cmp ammo. never one single time. that would convince me it was the clips i bought if my other one hasnt ran great on them.
maybe im asking too much of it, but i want it to run absolutlely 100%, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
