FWIW, the mags of mine were not serialed to the rifle. The last three digits of the # are on the bolt, very faintly, and also on the bolt head. ?!?

My bolt head has the last four digits electropenciled on it and the handle root has the same but stamped. I never knew they were there!

Does your safety have red paint on it? Side towards the butt?



My mags are hand lettered with the last digits of the rifle. Magic marker?

I do not know if this means much but my serial number is only three digits with a bunch of zeros in front of it. The rifle model is the first two numbers of the serial number. Mine is 814 in 7.62x39....

Yes, it has the sloppily applied red paint. That's the only thing about it that is not well done. I guess they have grand ideas of sales with the 0000697
serial number. My mags are totally unmarked.

The red paint is a customs thing to import in to Australia and i dont know for export.

The one I saw at Erie Pa's Gander Mountain not only had the red paint but a punch mark that was also slopped red. Mine does not have the punch mark to show where the safe is off or on. Does not have the Monte Carlo stock either. Thanks.

Well GOL-LEE da gubmint is just protecing us stupid rednecks frum ourselves. They think we are not smart enuf to know when a safety is on or off.

Na John it is the Aussie beauacrat [guvmit fella who knows best] saying what has to be wether they have jurisdiction or not [ jack boot jonnies] black at that. In Australia if you legally own firearms you are placed on the crim track system with the baddies.

Red paint on the safety is a customs import / export requirement to indicate the safety. All rifles going in or out of OZ require this paint to be put onto the rifle before it can clear customs and be registered in any state or territory in Australia.

The customs guys also do drop tests on unloaded rifles. Drop the rifle butt first onto a sufficient surface to ensure the cocked mechanism will not "fire". easy way around this to stop them damaging rifles is to label any rifle as a target rifle. the customs blokes get a bit jittery about dropping a rifle that the owner could take them to court for devaluating the rifle due to damage or loss of calibration.

PS the red paint on the safety can be removed in most states in Australia once the rifle has cleared customs as it is not a requirement under many states firearm legislation to have the paint applied to rifles that have entered the county and been registered correctly.
