I was told that Keith Rush of "Trapdoors Galore" was asked to drop by the TV show with a Trapdoor for sale. That Rush guy is always at the Phoenix Gunshow and is always trying to buy Trapdoors for lowball money. He knows his stuff, but you would not want to sell him anything.
I feel You on the Hitlery Channel. Between Hitler and UFO's every week, It's no wonder Kids don't know anything about History these days. I'd like to see some stuff on WW1 or the Spanish American War. Heck even some programming on WW2, other than Nazi Germany would be nice. Last I checked History started long before UFO's and Hitler...Pawn Stars are theives..ignorance by others brings them bliss...Just My Opinion....
It is basically a scripted , train wreck of a show. There are great items that come in, not just guns and blades. The main characters are abrasive, but hey they are pawnbrokers, not exactly an endearing lot.
The latest fantasy show is about the people who buy out storage lockers, and almost always find great old guns and relics.
How come the guy in Detroit { Hardcore Pawn} never takes a gun in hock ?? I am sure there must be a few legal gun owners in Motor City>
This is all pap for the masses, and it is up to ourselves to know what's what. :p
I just watch for the stuff that comes in. Sometimes it's interesting stuff. Like the ghosthunter shows, they're terrible. Never found or shown us a ghost yet. BUT, the locations are historic and VERY interesting for the most part.
All these channels have to fill time and shows like this are very cheap to make. It is like a cooking show, get some nobody to cook, pretend he is super famous and make it for a couple of bucks compared to a real sitcom or whatever.
I am afraid you will see more of this type of show as money is tight and there are thousands of hours of TV to fill.
My wife and I like Pawn Stars and it is one of the few programs on any of the history channels we can watch together. Plus it repeats so it's usually coming on when we want to watch something.
I think it's better than most of the trashy programs that are on these days and it does fit the history mold better than many they have on there.
It's not something we actively seek out to watch but end up finding it quite a bit.
What few programs I do like on tv I can't enjoy for all the &%$#@%#&%#@%^&&* commercials!!! A 1 hour show has on average 20 minutes of them. I know cause I've timed them. :bitch::bitch::bitch: On a lighter note, anybody watch the Andy Griffith Show re-runs on TV LAND? Ever noticed the Arisaka T38 and Carcano carbines in the gun rack in Andy's office in the courthouse?
I used to watch it for entertainment. Just remember it is a completely scripted show. I was at the shop a couple of months ago. They had a common '84 TD marked 2K and a common 43 Spanish RRB for 1.5K. They have no interest in selllig any of that stuff. There were people llined up at the door just to go in and look around. I joined the crowd. What a waste of time! I'm not wasting my time watching the show again.
The "Antiques Roadshow" had 1-2 guys end up in jail. They specialized in Civil War items. Old ladies were the targets. Got caught by a family member looking for Grand Pa's uniform. Found it in an upscale antique shop for huge money. An elderly Aunt had sold it for nothing. Con men and they got caught. The TV show, who knew nothing, has changed it rules.
