Yep, at least as dark as that, though it seemed even darker.

Hmm, that bench looks familiar! LOL That's a beautiful Underwood B. !
Jake old friend...
I didn't know you were a carbine guy until you told me this week in your PM from the other board. The carbine always will be my first love! It was the first centerfire and first semi auto I fired. Kinda like your first dalliance with the opposite sex!!!
Yep, it was the first centerfire semi-auto for me. Daddy had an old 8mm mauser for his "huntin" rifle. And he traded out for an old M1 carbine that looked new! It didn't take but one or two rounds and I was hooked! Very little recoil and it was so accurate! He let me use it for my deer rifle while he used his mauser. It had to be in the mid sixties. Like you said, like the first time "out behind the barn"! LOL All I have now is the Stainless Steel Universal in the M1 family, but when finances will allow, I will pick up a mil-surp ...if I can find one that a poor man can buy! I need to see which one daddy has now and "borrow" it from him for awhile!
I look forward to learning the in's and out's of them from you and the others here on the board. While I have been around them and shot them pretty much all my life, I have so much to learn.
Thanks Bubba!
