Say, why do you want a Type III band anyway? Planning on getting a bayonet to go with it? In fact, for a shooter, I don't see any reason to change the existing band at all. Its a G.I. band and it probably looks and fits fine. The remaining stub of the cut off bayo lug extension doesn't really matter. If you consider trading the hammer for an excellent stock, I'm sure you'll get plenty of takers. Changing the barrel band is a big job because the front sight has to be taken off and put back on. However, if you want to make it a more legitimate rebuild, yes, you would need a Type III band, but it wouldn't matter which maker. A JMQ/EMQ was one of the most used. Just make sure whatever you get has a sling loop on it.

My dad carried a carbine in korea was a morter man with the 45th ID and I think it would be nice to have it set up close to what he was issued and get a bayo.Think he would get a kick out of it.
