I agree with the Ordnance number...just pointing out a misprint in the book.

As to the 1A serial number, the rationalisation for them is hard since 51 mk1 scopes were altered to 1A, and their origional serial numbers maintained. (This is according to "Without Warning".

I have Mk.1A number C-1x and will check the others when I have a chance to get to them. I have had both a Mk.1A and a Mk. II with the Mk.1A number being higher than the Mk.II
REL sent a lot of kit to the UK for testing. A number of tests were also done in Canada with many makes and types of scopes. and I have the records, however I will not release them as the humpers would have the rifles with the "correct numbers" on the market within the week. Clive eluded to this in his book, as I supplied information but no numbers for obvious reasons. Something HAS to be sacred....

My guesstimate of $1700 was a touch low.....auction ended with a winning bid of just over $2000 Cdn.

The prices on these things just keep going up.

That's incredible, but not surprising given today's hot market... ;)

I hesitate to admit it, but I dropped out of bidding when I realized I was double the price of my first complete sniper for a "pig in a poke".

I joked around at the 1200-1300 mark, but the guy who got it seemed to be especially serious. When the next bidder came close to him, he put in another bid, which appears to have been a fair bit higher.

Lee Enfield: Don't concentrate on last years prices, or you will find yourself reflecting on this years prices next year. I don't think anybody is about to open up a crate somewhere and find 100 new in wrap #32 scopes. And even if some government warehouse did, they would just crush them anyway.

It's pretty hard to keep anything a secret on the Internet today, particularly when you have a lot of milsurp collectors and several forums all talking "shop" most of the time.

Before I saw stencollector's post, I already had received two emails (addressed to ~Angel~) from two different forums, pointing her to this auction. :lol:

In fact, I had already prepared an advisory ad in the For Sale or Auction section of the Quartermaster Stores, which I've sinced published.

You know, he does have a point...what's the likelihood of getting any kind of a deal on anything with this thousand watt searchlight spearing every interesting auction, guaranteeing you have to pay more than market value to get anything...:surrender::crying:

E-bay (and hopefully one day it's replacement) are the market now. That is, unless you can tell me where a shop is that has origional scopes and/or brackets sitting on the shelf.

This site is not what causes things to pop up on the radar. My favorite ebay search term is "Enfield Sniper", and unless someone mispells it Enfeild Snipur, I, and every other Enfield addict, is going to see it on ebay.

And as I have said many times before....if you don't like the prices today, look back in a year and you'll dream of them. The only thing that would kill the Enfield Sniper market is if ebay banned the sniper stuff altogether.
