After the issues that SA had with the 03 recievers, by stamping M-1 garand barrels 1-SA, 2-SA, and 3-SA, SA could ID by month and year and by heat treat oven, bad batch's of barrels...Did any M-1 Garand barrels ever have to be recalled? I wonder when the stamping 2-SA first started...
These numbers were still used when barrel production was decreased from later 1944 through 1945 so your statement doesn't wash.
The workshift specualtion doesn't wash either because the third shift at SA was eliminated in mid-1944 and barrels showing 1, 2 and 3 appear through 1945 production.
As of now, we know what it isn't but we don't know what it is. Let's don't turn this into an "Internet Legend" without any facts to make logical deductions.
Tuttle, from the Pyle Gas Trap book, would have many notes in his files.
Just having his daily trouble sheets reviewed if they exist, would answer many many nagging little items.
Besides the barrel, when exactly the sight seals were actually stopped would show up. Also his notes on bolt heat lots and inventory and strategic storage methods would likely be covered. Could be a treasure trove. I am sure that Pyle must have an "in" to the notes, having interviewed Tuttle.
Actually, come to think of it--Billy Pyle must have asked all those questions and probably knows everything, but is mum for a reason--- Sworn to secrecy by the clandestine "Skull and Bones Garand Society"!!
Billy seen all of Art's records and if there was anything more that was special he would have printed it. Art Grandson will amount to nothing of importance from what I understand and by what we are seeing here and on other forums. He post this and then disappears. He emails people and then stops answering right away. My opinion is he is fishing for someone to buy into Arts work but like I said Billy Pyle has gone through all of it so you will not see anything that hasn't been gone through.
