No, I was'nt told the scope is mismatched, this is my own deduction because the ser. # on the scope bracket does not match the rifle's ser. #. There is no # of any kind on the stock wrist. I'm reasonably sure the butt stock has been changed. It has no cheek piece, no screw holes for a cheek piece, and no S 51 stamp.

Just my opinion, but if he knocked a couple of hundred dollars off the price I think I still wouldn't be too excited about it. $800 sounded too good to be true and...

Figure that most of the value is in the scope and bracket.
How bad do you need that assembly?
The rifle itself...it may well be one recently imported w/o scope, so by itself, and considering there's no cheekpiece AND you can't lay hands upon it...Ummm.. about $5-600 at best. Mostly because you don't know what other dramas it has.
Add the two (after you decide on what you'd pay for the scope), and decide if it's worth taking a gamble.
